Susanna Styve’s first book of poetry, Miscellaneous, Tender, invites us into the private, sometimes lonely, world of an only child, offering comfort to those who grew up as only children, and challenging others to plunge down the rabbit hole of surprise. Styve’s prose poems create a fast-moving narrative, ranging from the serious to the light-hearted. The book moves lightly with wit and wry humor.

Susanna Styve, a native Minnesotan, grew up in Afton , on the St. Croix River . An avid student of familial dynamics, her writing has been fueled by the death of her father in 1999.

Before becoming employed by Hamline University ( St. Paul , Minnesota ), Styve earned a MFA degree in creative writing there. Prior to that, she received her BA degree  from Macalester in Eastern philosophies and English, with a concentration in creative writing.

Styve was the assistant poetry editor of Hamline?s literary journal, Water~Stone, for the 2002-03 issue. An accomplished tennis player, she further divides her time between her husband, two dogs, her mother and best friend, and writing.
